The next generation of box makers

Packaging people

As school and college leavers consider their next steps, Barnstaple box makers Atlas Packaging have been encouraging them into a career in cardboard. The firm is one of North Devon’s largest private employers having increased staff numbers to more than 180 people during the pandemic. But with demand for packaging still rising and production expanded to three shifts and 24 hours a day, Atlas took part in a jobs fair to attract more young people into the business.

Why work at Atlas?

The Instagram style flyer (above) is one of the ways that Atlas Packaging is attempting to appeal to people currently looking for work in Devon. The leaflet has been designed to stand out and catch the eye with the reverse side showcasing how two employees joined the business. The company has many long serving staff members which shows that once people have become part of the team then they tend to stay for a long time. Potential new recruits were able to hear more about this at a Department for Work and Pensions Kickstart event at Barnstaple Pannier Market this week. Phil Shearing (pictured) from Atlas Packaging said:

“It was great to be able to speak to people and to hear what their thoughts were about working for a company like Atlas Packaging. We were able to tell them about the roles we have available as well as things like receiving free gym membership, their birthday as an additional day off and other benefits that they can get by joining us.”
