Smurfit Westrock Atlas have been manufacturing and supplying drinks packaging to local Southwold brewers Adnams for nearing 15 years. Over those years we have provided a range of packaging solutions, from traditional mail-order beer packaging through to gift packaging.
In August last year we were asked to design and manufacture a brand new concept for Adnams; a beer advent calendar to house 24 of their brews including Ghostship, Southwold Bitter and Sole Star among many others.
Our internal design team developed several bespoke packaging design options for the advent calendar taking into consideration weight, size, durability, consumer experience and visual appeal. Adnams design team then created the visual artwork for their chosen version.
Jess Turner, Head of Creative for Adnams said “The box visual artwork was designed to sit within the core Adnams brand creative, to be bright, fun and playful” and that “the outside was designed to be quite simple and clean, so that the numerical inserts inside the box where a real pop and wow when the lid was opened.”
In recent months, at Smurfit Westrock Atlas, we have manufactured gift packaging for Adnams gin range using the lithographic printing method. Lithographic printed packaging produces a higher quality print finish than more traditional print methods such as flexographic.
However, on this advent calendar Adnams decided to go back to using flexographic printing as they felt that flexographically printed packaging gives a “friendly, approachable and handcrafted feel” suiting the Adnams products contained within the advent calendar.
The finished product which was sold via Adnams online and their retail stores has been a huge success with “demand exceeding supply” says Jess.
