ATLAS PACKAGING has taken delivery of the Emba 245 QS Ultima, the most advanced machinery of its type for corrugated board conversion in the world.
The Machine, which required an investment by Atlas of over £2 million, is the first to be installed in the UK. It is fully automated, quick set and capable of running at 18,000 boxes per hour. It is the world’s first non crush-converting in-line machine capable of constructing corrugated boxes to an unprecedented standard and additionally boasts a 4 colour + IR dryer with enhanced print which surpasses all current standards of post print flexo, even rivalling pre-print in some instances.
The Machine is designed to work in conjunction with Prowell Next Generation Board, a reduced flute board which has been constructed to deliver improved performance as well as environmental benefits. The board, whilst retaining the strength of conventional board, is made using less fibre and energy and offers up to 20% improvement in pallet utilisation, effecting cost savings in storage and transport. Notwithstanding these advantages, the board offers greatly enhanced print quality, comparable to that of ‘E’ flute board, with near total elimination of flute shadow.
The new machine, delivered to the Atlas HQ in Barnstaple, North Devon is already up and running. Jason Sharman, Managing Director at Atlas Packaging comments: ‘This has been the biggest single investment we have made to date, but will take us onto a new level in the packaging sector and will undoubtedly enhance our offerings. From an environmental stand point, this new machine is equipped with the latest technology that ensures minimal power requirements, minimised raw material costs and reduced water consumption. Combining all of the environmental aspects with the new board, it is also helping Atlas to reduce our customers carbon footprint as well as our own, without compromising quality in any way.’
